Since the 1970s DIT has used Rilsan® for all surface treatment of trolleys. Rilsan® is a 100%
bio-degradable product obtained from the castor-oil plant. The Ricinus plant is non-toxic
and approved for use in connection with food products. The use of Rilsan® as a surface
treatment substance eliminates the risk of allergies that may occur by coming into contact
with nickel plated or chromium plated trolleys, for example.
The surface offers optimum corrosion protection. Laboratory tests have demonstrated that Rilsan® is 500 to 600 times
more hard wearing than the most commonly used, kilndried wet lacquers.
A Rilsan® surface is dirt resistant and easy to clean. The extremely dense surface pores further minimise the
risk of bacteria formation and to a greater extent than does stainless steel, for example.
Rilsan-treated cleaning trolleys stand up to considerable temperature fluctuations and are
resistant to most acids and bases.
